Mercedes Citan

Mercedes Citan Van

A new offering from Mercedes Benz is the Mercedes Citan, their first small van to add to Sprinter & Vito line-up.  Unlike the bigger brothers which are unique to Mercedes the Citan design has come from the Renault Kangoo. Mercedes have however waved their Mercedes want over this little van and transformed it to a fully-fledged Merc….well almost.  The body is essentially a Kangoo and the front end has a different grill carrying the 3 pointed star. The interior however has been Mercedesised …if there is such a word!

Available in three lengths; Compact, Long and Extra Long and capable of carrying goods from 490kg to 810kg, the Citan is powered by a choice of 1.5 litre diesel engines in 75ps, 90ps and 110ps or a 1.2 litre petrol engine producing 114ps. Official combines fuel consumption figures range from 56.5mpg to 65.7mpg and 112g/km to 130g/km CO2 emissions. The 75 & 90ps engines use a 5 speed box with the 110ps and petrol engine utilising a 6 speed box.
As with its bigger brothers, the Citan is also available in Dualiner and remarkably a Traveliner version. The Citan Dualiner wil carry up to 5 people with its 1/3 to 2/3 split folding rear bench seat which is accessible via the glazed twin side loading doors, still leaving 2.4m3 of loadspace.  An optional single-section 3-seater bench, which can be folded forward to form a bulkhead will increase loadspace to 3.7m3.
The Citan Traveliner is very similar to Dualiner but includes glazing on the rear side panels, a tailgate instead of barn doors and as with other Traveliners, is more refined and more of a dedicated people carrier.
As mentioned earlier, the interior is again what you would expect from a Merc.  Using higher quality materials than its donor Kangoo, it feels more comfortable and more refined, however all this comes at a price.
A great high quality little van but at a price. Is it really worth it??
